Gerardo Zepeda
Biography
Gerardo Zepeda was a film actor and professional wrestler whose screen career covered more than 40 years and close to 300 movies. Born in 1938, he took up professional fighting while he was still young and spent 15 years in the ring as El Romano. Black Guzman, the brother of the wrestler known as Santo, invited him to the United States, where he wrestled for another 15 years against men such as The Cave Galindo, Pompadours Guajardo and Pancho Villalobos. He said he beat Santo in two or three of the fifteen bouts between them. The screenwriter Jesus Bat Velasquez, who wrote Mexican films and the novel Tlayucan, brought him into pictures and urged him to leave wrestling behind. Zepeda went on to play gangsters, thugs and monsters, and he died in 2013.
