Plot summary
Peter Gibbons programs software at Initech, where he is miserable and vice president Bill Lumbergh presses him to work nearly every weekend. His girlfriend, Anne, cheats on him, and he is drawn to a waitress, Joanna, without managing to speak to her. His co-workers Samir Nagheenanajar and Michael Bolton dislike the place too. Anne talks Peter into a session of occupational hypnotherapy with Dr. Swanson, who calms him and tells him to quit caring about the job. Peter sleeps through the following day and lets calls from Lumbergh and Anne go unanswered; Anne ends their relationship. Two consultants arrive to help the company downsize. Peter starts seeing Joanna and ignores office rules.
