Plot summary
Keening, Massachusetts, stopped observing St. Patrick's Day after a massacre sixty-six years ago. The killer was a leprechaun, and the survivors used an old book to send it into another dimension. Karen O'Hara is a young woman who knows little about the town's bloody past. She is out hunting on St. Patrick's Day when she accidentally frees the creature, which kills several people and takes its revenge on the descendants of the ones who imprisoned it. Pop O'Hara says a leprechaun is responsible for the deaths. Karen's father, Sheriff Conor O'Hara, will not believe that a mythical being is loose in his town.

- One of the weapons in the film, a staff with four sharpened horseshoes on it, came about after writer Ferrante joked they could call the movie "Four-Leaf Cleaver".
- Writer Ferrante wanted the leprechaun to look "creepy and organic" and deliberately steered away from the usual St. Patrick's Day clothing for the creature.
