Plot summary
During a police raid on his Ohio farmhouse, serial killer Edward Scarka is shot and killed. At that same moment, Sarah and John Blume welcome their son Miles in Pennsylvania. Miles grows up calm and unusually advanced, speaking fluently before he is a toddler. At eight, he changes: he injures his babysitter Zoe during a game and says he remembers nothing, then attacks a classmate with a wrench at school. Sarah takes him to psychiatrist Elaine Strasser, who gives a recording of Miles muttering in his sleep to Arthur Jacobson, a reincarnation expert. Arthur says the words are a rare Hungarian dialect and that an unsettled spirit may be trying to take control of the boy.
