Trailer

Plot summary

Where a person dies in terrible rage or sorrow, the place where it happens keeps hold of them, and the curse passes to whoever enters, renewing itself each time. In Tokyo, the Williams family from America moves into a house with that history. Jennifer cannot speak Japanese and feels lost in the city, while Emma, who has dementia, senses something wrong with the house. Yoko, a care worker, comes to look after Emma and does not come back. Her employer, Alex, sends Karen, an exchange student studying social work, to take over the old woman's care. Karen finds Emma catatonic, the rest of the house deserted, and hears scratching from upstairs.
