Plot summary
Someone plunges from a skyscraper in Philadelphia, and a note left behind speaks of the Devil drawing near. In the same tower, an elevator stalls with five people aboard: a substitute security guard, a mechanic who served in the Marines, a young woman, an older woman and a mattress salesman. The car's radio is broken, so the guards watching on a monitor can speak to the passengers but cannot hear them. Detective Bowden, sent to the building over the jump and still grieving the wife and son he lost to a hit-and-run five years ago, takes the case and tries to learn who the five are and get them out.
