Plot summary
Kora and the fighters who travel with her, Gunnar, Tarak, Nemesis, Titus and Milius, come home to the village on Veldt, believing that the Imperium has been kept from the grain it wants and that Atticus Noble is dead. Aris tells them the Imperium will reach Veldt in five days. The harvest is brought in over three days so that the village will hold a store of flour, which its people mean to use as a bargaining piece in the hope that the Imperium will not bomb them. Over the two days that remain, Titus means to drill the villagers for the coming fight, and the group plans tunnels and trenches across the fields, buried explosives, and Kora's dropship. Kora and Gunnar have become lovers.
