Plot summary
Dani Barnes gets straight As and is chasing a scholarship to U.C. Davis, and she spends her free time volunteering at a dog clinic because of her love of dogs. At school she is seen as an unfashionable nerd and is not popular; her one friend is Freddie Myers, who keeps a crush on her that she does not notice. Dani's attention goes to Cameron Drake, a crush she has carried since childhood. Cameron is one of the school's most popular students, and he is going out with Alexa Medina. Alexa, Dani's former childhood best friend, now bullies her and is idolized around school, with a large following across social media platforms.
