Plot summary
Long ago a Sun Duck guarded his flock from evil powers, and guardians kept the sun's energy spread evenly over a flourishing land. The Witch learned what the Sun Duck could do, seized the guardians, and carried him off for the only thing she wanted: endless youth and beauty. Nobody on the island believes any of that now. Mandarin ducks go about their days and keep two rules, no flying and no leaving. Only the Emperor knows the old story is true and that the next Sun Duck has been born, and he tells no one. The Witch knows as well, and she is coming back.
