Plot summary
The AO Pi chapter at a Southern California state school has never won the prize it covets, so its sisters volunteer to train young adults with disabilities for the Challenged Games. Carolyn McDuffy is paired with Jesse Romanoff, whom everyone calls Pumpkin, and is horrified, never having spent time around people with disabilities. Pumpkin is kind to her, and she warms to a genuineness she does not find in her boyfriend Kent Woodlands or in her sorority sisters. Her attention gives him the will to leave his wheelchair and work hard at the training. His mother Judy keeps a close watch over him.
