- Screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski deliberately pushed the sequel's poor taste so far that its first cut earned an R rating from the MPAA; dubbing over Junior's use of the word "pussy-whipped" won a PG-13 on appeal, and the studio still added the 1947 Woody Woodpecker cartoon Smoked Hams to the theatrical release to reassure parents it was for children.
- Universal Pictures was reluctant to rehire screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski for the sequel, but did so anyway because they needed the film shot quickly, before child star Michael Oliver could noticeably grow older.
