  1. A change of course

Quinn spent July 13, 1981 answering phones and giving out toilet paper, mail, and lightbulbs at NYU's Weinstein Dormitory. Once her shift ended, she headed to WNBC, having just wrapped up an internship there for her senior year.

  2. Big break

Quinn's four-minute audition, in which she talked about Earth, Wind, and Fire, so impressed MTV executives that she was hired as a VJ two days later, and the show launched two weeks after that.

  3. A first

As one of MTV's first on-air hosts, Quinn worked alongside Mark Goodman, Nina Blackwood, Alan Hunter and J. J. Jackson. Their role on the nation's first music television network gave them an up-close view of the most popular rock and pop artists of the 1980s.
