Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Ernest Goes to Camp (1987)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Disney executives Michael Eisner and Jeffrey Katzenberg got the idea for the film after watching Jim Varney, as Ernest P. Worrell, upstage Mickey Mouse during a parade at the Indianapolis 500.
- Varney was reluctant to make the film for fear of being typecast, and despite going on benders leading up to production, he maintained a professional and cordial attitude on set.
- A romantic subplot between Ernest and camp nurse St. Cloud, played by Victoria Racimo, was cut because Disney didn't find it suitable.
- About 150 Boy Scouts from the local area were hired as extras, so many of the young campers on screen are real scouts rather than actors.
