Plot summary
With Margaret Thatcher in power and the miners out on strike in 1984, London activist Mark Ashton notices that the police have moved their attention from the gay community to the miners. At the city's Gay Pride march he starts a collection for mining families and turns it into Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners, joined by closeted student Joe Cooper and by Jonathan Blake and Gethin Roberts, a couple whose bookshop becomes the group's base. The union is slow to respond, and some gay people want nothing to do with miners who once mistreated them. The activists decide to take their money to Onllwyn in Wales, and Dai Donovan, a union leader there, travels to London to meet them. In Onllwyn, a women's support group argues over whether to invite the visitors.

- In January 2015 it was reported that the US DVD cover of Pride made no mention of the film's gay content: the description "a London-based group of gay and lesbian activists" was cut to "a group of London-based activists", and a lesbian and gay banner was removed from a back-cover photograph.

The film's closing text tells what became of the real people behind it: Siân was elected to Parliament, Jonathan lived on although he was one of the first people in Britain diagnosed with HIV, and LGSM founder Mark Ashton died of AIDS two years later, aged 26.
