Plot summary
At Christmastime, Maynard Greiger runs the general store in Pottersville, a small town that has struggled since the mill shut down. He comes home from work early to surprise his wife, Connie, and discovers that both she and Jack, the sheriff, are furries; Connie says she wants more excitement and some time apart. Maynard returns to the store, gets drunk, and tells the whole story to Parker, his clerk. He then puts on a gorilla costume and wanders the town, startling people. The next morning he learns that he has been identified as Bigfoot. He means to confess, but he sees what the sightings could do for the town's economy, and the reports spread. The publicity brings tourists and a television monster hunter, Brock Masterson, who arrives to search for the creature.
