Plot summary
Steph lost her parents in a car crash when she was a baby, and Jude, their over-protective friend, raised her in a small coastal town she has never left. On her eighteenth birthday she is handed her dead mother's locked diary, and that same day she takes a job at the local peach cannery. Her boss is Alan, the cannery foreman and a married man. Through the diary she learns about her mother Jass and her father Johnny, and about the lives the people around her led before the crash. The diary draws her into her family's past and, at the same time, into romantic complications in the town.

- Director Craig Monahan said that screenwriter Sue Smith wanted more sex scenes in the film, and that he found different audiences responded to different characters: men over 40 followed Hugo Weaving's journey, women around 30 followed Jacqueline McKenzie's, and younger viewers followed Emma Lung's, but young men did not connect with the film at all.
