Plot summary
Gary is a Los Angeles high school student who delivers pizza for Pink Pizza after class. His best friends, Rick and David, share his interest in chasing girls. Gary falls for Karen, a classmate new to the area, whose friend Rose takes an interest in him, while Karen's feelings turn to Rick. One night the boys bring three girls to Gary's house with a promise of cocaine that turns out to be Sweet'n Low, and Gary's parents come home and break it up. Later, Gary delivers a pizza to Carmela, a customer who says she wants more than food; he returns with Rick and David, and Carmela entertains them until her boyfriend Paco arrives and the boys run for the car.

- At the band's own request, every DVD and Blu-ray release has replaced the Human League's "Love Action" with a repeated use of Devo's "Whip It" in one scene, though the original MGM VHS tape still has the original song intact.
- Lead actor Lawrence Monoson had originally auditioned for a minor part but was chosen by Davidson to play Gary, beating out roughly 200 other actors who tried out for the role.
- "Just Once", which featured prominently over the film's final scene, was left off the soundtrack album, yet Ingram was nominated for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 1982 Grammy Awards.
- Davidson intentionally sought inexperienced teenage actors to appear in the film, and held casting calls in New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
- The film is a remake of Davidson's own 1978 Israeli film Lemon Popsicle, with the story moved to a Los Angeles high school student trying to lose his virginity.
