Louis Negin
Biography
Louis Negin was a British-born Canadian actor whose career took in stage, film and television and who was best known for his work with Guy Maddin. Born in London and raised in Toronto, he had early roles in the 1950s anthology series First Performance and joined the chorus for Tyrone Guthrie's 1957 screen version of Oedipus Rex. He performed at the Stratford Festival and on Broadway in Tamburlaine, and in London stagings of Fortune and Men's Eyes, where he was among the first actors to appear fully nude on the English stage. Maddin's films with him included The Saddest Music in the World (2003), My Winnipeg (2008), Keyhole (2011) and The Forbidden Room (2015), and he also appeared in Bruce McDonald's Pontypool (2009). In 2019 he played the mother of Mackenzie King in Matthew Rankin's The Twentieth Century and earned a Vancouver Film Critics Circle nomination.
