James Bolam

Born in Sunderland, James Bolam is an English actor who studied at London's Central School of Speech and Drama and made his professional debut at the Royal Court Theatre, understudying Ronnie Barker in Platonov. His early screen appearances included Z-Cars and the 1962 releases A Kind of Loving and also The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner. He became a star as Terry Collier in The Likely Lads, which aired from 1964 to 1966, and later appeared in Otley (1969), O Lucky Man! (1973), and the film spin-off The Likely Lads (1976). He provided a voice in the animated The Plague Dogs (1982). For When the Boat Comes In he received British Academy Television Award nominations in 1977 and 1978, and an Olivier Award nomination came in 1995 for Glengarry Glen Ross. His later television work includes Only When I Laugh, The Beiderbecke Trilogy, Born and Bred, New Tricks, and Grandpa in My Pocket.
