Plot summary
Nick Daley wants to DJ his school's jazz recital, partly to stay near his crush Mia, and he doubts he can manage that or the summer job his father Larry has arranged for him. Larry is leaving to guard a history museum in Japan, so Nick takes his place as the night guard at the American Museum of Natural History, where the exhibits come to life after dark. Teddy Roosevelt and Sacagawea greet him, along with Attila, the cowboy Jedediah, the Roman soldier Octavius, the Neanderthal Laaa, the monkey Dexter and a new statue of Joan of Arc. He is meant to lock the basement storage room, but the things kept down there send him running. The pharaoh Kahmunrah, imprisoned below, breaks out and takes the tablet that wakes the exhibits, and a chase begins through the museum.
