Plot summary
Judy has lived with Parkinson's disease for most of her marriage to Ed, who helps her dress and take her medication in their isolated home at the edge of Stuart Lake in British Columbia. Their eighteen-year-old son Jamie spends his days smoking and playing hockey with his best friend Danny. When Danny leaves for college, Jamie is left at loose ends, and Ed persuades him to take a job in the Alberta oil fields. There Jamie struggles to fit in among co-workers who talk about sex and violence and bully him. Judy attends a weekly support group and tries to keep her independence. In town, a pregnant seventeen-year-old cashier named Kaly tells Judy the store offers home delivery.
