Plot summary
Budget cuts ended Georgia's post teaching the Classics at a college in Greece, and she now leads four-day bus tours. Maria, her boss, passes along the tourists' verdict: she is boring. The group she is given cares more about souvenirs and the beach than about the ruins, and the bus has no air conditioning. Her riders include a feuding couple, a sullen teenager, a frat boy and divorcées looking for company. She envies the Canadians traveling with her colleague Nico. At the last minute her regular driver is replaced by Poupi, and among the passengers is Irv Gideon, an elderly and seasoned traveler.

- This was the first time that an American film studio was allowed to film on location at the Acropolis; the Greek government gave the studio its approval after Nia Vardalos sought permission to film several scenes there.
- The script was originally by Mike Reiss, based on his own travel experiences, but it was later re-written by star Nia Vardalos after she became involved in the film.
- Vardalos has said that the film was a lifelong dream of hers, because she had always wanted to do a film in her family's ancestral homeland.
