Plot summary

Pax, also known as P-A-X-497/341, is a curious man from the year 3127, a well-ordered world where love has been forgotten. He wants to understand old ideas such as love, passion and sex, and he has found a romance novel written in 2011 by Elizabeth Barrett, a newly published author who also works at a newspaper whose stories are mostly invented. He is told that love once made people behave oddly and brought suffering to the world. Pax travels back to New Orleans in 2011 to ask Elizabeth what love is. She introduces him to life in her time, and he learns that she has a boyfriend, Richard.
