Plot summary
Woody Deane and Nell Bedworth live next door to one another and attend the same high school, where the two of them are complete opposites. Woody plays varsity football and is popular; Nell loves literature but has trouble socially. They cannot stand each other. During a class visit to a museum, the pair are assigned to work together, and their bickering before a statue of the Aztec god Tezcatlipoca ends with a spell placed on them. The next morning they wake to find they have swapped bodies. Each blames the other, yet they agree to keep up the pretense of being the other person while they look for a way back, and their attempts at imitation quickly fall apart.
