Plot summary
Allyson Field writes a blog about the strain of raising three children and her own anxiety and sense of unworthiness, and her husband Sean suggests she take a night off. She and her friends Izzy and Sondra book a table at a Chinese restaurant, while Sean and Izzy's husband Marco look after the children. Bridget, Sean's half-sister, asks Allyson to watch her baby, Phoenix, on the same evening; Allyson declines and Bridget leaves. At the restaurant the reservation has vanished, so Allyson collects the group's cellphones in her van and takes the women bowling instead. Meanwhile the men take the children to a video arcade, and two of them swap a car for Allyson's van.
