Plot summary
In Cape Town, Jacob King gets word from Bianca, the sister he has long been apart from, that she is in trouble and that she keeps something "they" want. He travels to Los Angeles to look for her. At her address a neighbor gives him belongings Bianca had left in her keeping and mentions that Bianca's husband had gone missing earlier, leaving his son with her. The landlady says a local business owner, Zico, settled Bianca's rent before she went away, and that Bianca had been beaten and seemed strung out. King finds Zico among a group of men, and they claim to know nothing about Bianca. A shopkeeper directs King to the morgue, and there he identifies her body, tortured and mutilated.
