Plot summary
Thomas and the other Gladers have barely escaped the maze when they are brought to a facility run by Mr. Janson, who says it keeps them safe from the Cranks, people the Flare virus has driven mad. There they meet young survivors from other mazes. Each day the facility summons a group of teenagers to live in farms and communities in safe areas, and Thomas wants to know what becomes of them. He teams up with Aris, a boy from a different maze who arrived at the facility first, to look into the place. When they leave, WCKD soldiers chase them into the Scorch, the ruined world outside.
