Plot summary
Seventeen-year-old Rain Burroughs lives with early onset schizophrenia. After a psychotic episode she is admitted to a hospital, and she tells her therapist that she stopped taking her medication because it interferes with her painting. Her mother Michelle and her father John are supportive, but back at school her friends mock her illness. A new student, Caleb, notices her and the two begin spending time together. One night Rain dreams of her teacher, Ms McConnell, her next-door neighbor, dancing with a small child. She wakes, looks from her bedroom window into the attic next door, and sees the girl pulled from sight.
