Plot summary
Marcel is a one-inch-tall talking shell who lives in a house with his grandmother, Nana Connie, and a pet ball of lint. A community of shells once shared the property, and the two of them are the only ones still there. Dean, a documentary filmmaker, takes a room in the house through Airbnb and starts filming Marcel's days, which are mostly spent gathering supplies from the backyard while Connie gardens with the insects she has befriended. When the footage goes online, it becomes a phenomenon, and Marcel is both pleased and overwhelmed, wishing his family could see it. Dean helps him make a livestream asking for help in finding them.
