Biography

Charles Levin was an American actor whose work spanned television, film, and stage. Born in Chicago in 1949, he built a career chiefly as a familiar face on series television. He played Elliot Novak on Alice and became a regular cast member in that show's ninth season. From 1982 to 1986 he had the recurring part of Eddie Gregg on Hill Street Blues. Levin also played Vinnie DiSalvo on Capital News and Robert Caporale on L.A. Law, and his guest appearances included Family Ties, Tales from the Darkside, Night Court, Designing Women, Murphy Brown, NYPD Blue, and Law & Order. In the Seinfeld episode The Bris he played the mohel, and he appeared as Coco, a gay cook, in the pilot for The Golden Girls; that character was dropped when Estelle Getty's Sophia Petrillo shifted from recurring to main cast. He died in 2019.
