Plot summary
Gabriel Drummer trains as a U.S. Marine at Camp LeJeune. He and his wife Natalie have a young son, Johnathan, who is bullied at school after Natalie tells him she loves him in front of his classmates. Gabriel makes "man down" a secret code between them for "I love you." Gabriel deploys to Afghanistan, and his childhood friend and fellow Marine Devin Roberts arrives after recovering from a broken arm. Captain Peyton, a therapist, holds mandatory counseling sessions with Gabriel and questions his mental condition; Gabriel insists he is okay and walks out of the office. Returning home, Gabriel finds his city devastated and begins searching the ruins for Natalie and Johnathan with Devin beside him.
