Plot summary
The pistol is a silver Walther P38 that Lupin himself once carried, and it is used to shoot Inspector Zenigata, and the blame for the shooting falls on Lupin. Following the gun takes him into the Devil's Triangle, to the island base of the Tarantulas, a spider-tattooed army of assassins. After a heist he attempts, Lupin runs into these killers, and he is taken into their ranks against his will, with Daisuke Jigen, Goemon Ishikawa XIII and Fujiko Mine close at hand. The Tarantulas keep a large store of gold on the island, smuggled there, and Lupin means to carry it off while he hunts the person from his past who fired the shot.

- According to Miki Sakagami's narration at the start of the 1997 TV special, it was made with the largest budget in the history of the Lupin III TV specials up to that point, and it marked Lupin III's 30th anniversary.
- Yuji Ohno returned to handle the music for this special, arranging the Lupin III theme as a '97 version that was used as the opening for the first time.
- Producer Toshio Nakaya said the special started from thinking about what Lupin's most important possession is, which led to making a story themed on the Walther P38.
