Plot summary
Treasure Town is home to Black and White, two penniless orphans who live on its streets and treat the whole city as their own. A megacorporation threatens to tear the town down and build an amusement park in its place. Veteran yakuza and dangerous assassins also have their sights on the decaying neighborhood, and the two take up the fight for the place they live.

- Michael Arias and Koji Morimoto made a computer-animated pilot film, an early version of Tekkon Kinkreet, in 1999; Arias wanted the whole film in 3D but abandoned the project when that proved too difficult, and it was revived in 2003 when he worked with Studio 4°C on Animatrix.
- Taiyō Matsumoto's manga Tekkon Kinkreet ran in 33 chapters in Big Comic Spirits in 1993 and 1994 and was collected in three volumes; it sold over a million copies in Japan and was Matsumoto's breakthrough as a manga artist.
