Plot summary
A fight between Clark Davis and a friend leaves a cafe damaged, and the journeys Clark had planned are suddenly in doubt. Sheriff Holden and Millie, who owns the cafe, arrange for Clark to work off what he owes on the Barlow farm, which the sisters Ellen and Cassie run. The place has grown more than Ellen can manage alone, which is why she accepted the sheriff's terms. She does not understand how friendly Cassie is with Clark.
