Plot summary
Dr. Abernathy is killed in a fall at Loch Ness after he sees something in the water and photographs it. Months later, Dr. John Dempsey, an American zoologist, is asked to take his place and disprove the monster's existence. Dempsey's career was ruined by his failed attempt to prove that the Sasquatch exists, and he accepts the work for the money. In Scotland he meets Adrian Foote, Dr. Abernathy's assistant, who believes in the monster, and rents a room at the inn run by Laura McFetridge and her daughter Isabel.

- Rod Stewart's 1991 song "Rhythm of My Heart" plays over the film's closing credits, but the soundtrack CD uses a version performed by an artist Trevor Jones could not identify, plus a cover by the Scottish band Runrig from their 1996 compilation Long Distance.
