Plot summary
In 50 AD a relic known as the Loculus is made, and over the centuries it passes through the hands of alchemists and scholars who try to read the secret carried on its wooden panels. In the present day the relic reappears at Rennes-le-Château, where an academic working for Lord Magnus Martel hides it. Magnus's son Jake, a cryptographer, leaves Wormwood Scrubs Prison and is brought into his father's research. Magnus tells him the Loculus belongs to the history of the Knights Templar and to the Order, the Templars' successor, which telephones him with threats when he slows his work. Jake works at the coded markings on the panels, while an occultist named Mira is part of the same project.
