Plot summary
Freya is a warrior and the daughter of Thorsson, the Viking king. She is promised to Sven, one of the mightiest warriors of her father's clan, but before the engagement is settled the ailing king decides on one last expedition to Gungnir, an island said to be enchanted by Odin and where a monstrous beast is said to live. Freya makes a bargain with Sven: she will marry him only if her father comes home safely. He agrees reluctantly, not knowing that her heart belongs to Agnar, her childhood friend, who is thought to have been lost on that island.
