Plot summary
Susette Kelo works as a paramedic in New London, Connecticut, and her home sits in a working-class neighborhood. The town wants to hand her property and the surrounding land to Pfizer Corporation through eminent domain, so she sues. She becomes the reluctant leader of her neighbors, who are fighting to keep their homes from the political and corporate interests that want the land. Charlotte Wells, the president of Walthrop College, persuades the governor that the project could raise tax revenue for the poor and improve his public image. The suit against the town carries her name, Kelo v. City of New London.
