Plot summary
An extreme heat wave grips the Florida coast. Ned Racine practices law in Miranda Beach and chases women. The one he wants is Matty Walker, who looks like money. She flirts with him, then says nothing can happen because she has a husband, Edmund Walker, a wealthy businessman who seldom comes to their Pinehaven home. Ned and Matty start an affair and hide it from his friends Peter Lowenstein and Oscar Grace. If Matty divorced Edmund, a prenuptial agreement would cut her out of his fortune.
