Peggy Rea

Peggy Rea was an American actress who worked mostly in television and was often cast as matronly characters. Born in Los Angeles in 1921, she left UCLA for business school and took a production secretary job at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in the 1940s. She later assisted writer-musician Kay Thompson, then won a supporting part as Eunice Hubbell in the national road company of Tennessee Williams's A Streetcar Named Desire from 1948 to 1949. Rea was probably best known as Lulu Coltrane Hogg, the wife of Boss Hogg, in The Dukes of Hazzard, appearing in 19 episodes across its seven-year run starting in 1979. She also played Rose Burton on The Waltons from 1979 to 1981, was a regular in Step by Step's first season from 1991 to 1992, and appeared on Grace Under Fire during the 1990s. Her film work included Norman Jewison's In Country (1989).
