Plot summary

Jenny cares for her terminally ill mother and needs money for medical bills, so she accepts a chaperone position in the Posterity Project, a program for gifted children. The facility sits underground and operates in total darkness, and everyone inside depends on virtual reality glasses to see, the same glasses that deliver the children's lessons. Jenny meets the other chaperones, Tiggs and Darby, and ARIAL, the artificial intelligence in charge. She is told the children must not be kept from their lessons, and when she tries to talk with them they ignore her.
