Clutch Powers digs for a Power Crystal and wakes the Crystal King, a rock monster. The crystal he carries turns out to be the king's baby, and handing it back earns him a Power Crystal of his own. He delivers it to his boss, Kjeld Playwell, who gives him three teammates: Brick Masterson, Peg Mooring and Bernie von Beam. Playwell then sends the four of them to the Space Police prison planet over an incident there, though Clutch prefers to work alone.
