Plot summary

In a small Oklahoma town, Cal Chetley lives with his mother, Sharon. Bullied at school, he joins his high school's wrestling team, the sport his late father and his older brother Mike once won championships in. Mike is twenty-eight now and has been estranged from the family for a decade. Cal seeks him out to ask for coaching, and Mike turns him away, though Cal keeps asking. Sharon, out of contact with Mike for more than a decade, does not at first support her younger son's decision to wrestle. An old man named Red Newman and Cal's friend Luli Stringfellow offer advice and encouragement.
