Plot summary
In the mid-1970s, the Dogtown stretch of Santa Monica and Venice is home to teenagers Tony Alva, Stacy Peralta and Jay Adams, who surf and skate the pier. Board designer Skip Engblom runs the local Zephyr Surf Shop, where Sid, a friend of the boys, works. When Skip gets polyurethane wheels, Sid invites the boys to try them. Skip adds Tony, Jay, Sid and other locals to his Zephyr skate team, and the team wins many contests. Hot weather flattens the surf and a drought is declared, keeping pools empty, so the Z-Boys sneak into backyard pools and skip Skip's practice sessions. Major skate companies begin courting the three.
