Plot summary
Skylar Lewis, a fifteen-year-old with a strong singing voice, is set to perform at a Halloween party alongside Ryan Dean, guitarist for The Backbeats, and her closest friends, Henry and Sadie, are getting her ready. Her parents instead order her to stay home and switch on an alarm system to keep her inside. Skylar shuts off the electricity so the alarm cannot hold her, and the outage opens a containment unit in the house, letting Deimata out. Skylar then learns what her family has kept from her: her mother and father hunt monsters, and she is the fifth generation to do so. Deimata lives on fear. With Sadie and Henry, and with help from Cobb, she takes up her parents' hunting gear and heads for the party at the McQuarry Mansion to round up the escaped creatures.
