Plot summary
The Buchanan Motor Company's president, Jim Buchanan, has had his new automobile design turned down by his fellow executives. Engaged to Evelyn Fletcher, a socialite with an eye on his money, he declares himself sick of everything and takes a vacation. In a park he meets Joan Hawthorne, who has just been evicted and cannot find work. Taking him for another job hunter, she proposes they apply together for a post that needs a butler and a cook, with Jim posing as her husband. He agrees. Calling themselves Mr. and Mrs. Burns, the two are hired by Mike Rossini for his household, where Joan cooks and Jim must keep up the pretense of marriage to a woman he has just met.
