Plot summary
When the undercover detective Jasper is suspended for brutality, the department pushes Gary Johnson, a New Orleans professor of psychology and philosophy who also does contract work for the police, into the role of fake hitman. Gary poses as a hitman for hire so the police can catch people trying to arrange murders, and he proves good at it, researching each suspect and tailoring a distinct persona for every sting. Playing a confident man called Ron, he meets Madison, a discontented married woman who wants her abusive husband killed. Gary feels sympathy and attraction toward her and refuses her money, telling her to use it to start her life over, which disappoints Jasper and his colleagues Claudette and Phil.
