Plot summary
Johnny Wolfe, a teenager in 1972, lives in the boarding house his mother Marie runs, along with his younger sister Pam. Marie adores Elvis Presley, and Johnny is trying to put a band together at his high school. When Marie is badly hurt in a car crash, Johnny settles on an outlandish way to lift her spirits on her birthday: bring Elvis Presley to her in person. He and his bandmates set off for Cleveland, Ohio, in Marie's pink Cadillac, where the singer has a show. A pizzeria owner in the city who looks a great deal like Elvis's late mother, Gladys, lends a hand with the scheme.
