Plot summary
Georgia Mozell edits her own women's magazine, Maddy Mozell acts on a soap opera, and their youngest sister, Eve Marks, juggles a family and a party planning business. Their parents' divorce years earlier ended with their mother, Pat, leaving her daughters as well as their father, Lou, and all three sisters are still wounded by it. When Lou, cantankerous at seventy-nine, enters the early stages of dementia and is hospitalized in Los Angeles, Eve takes on his care, answering his many phone calls, often incoherent, and visiting him nearly every day. Maddy, meanwhile, leaves her large dog with Eve. Georgia and Maddy consider themselves part of his care without lifting a finger to help.
