Henry Darrow
Biography
Henry Darrow was an American actor of stage and screen. Born in New York City and raised partly in Puerto Rico, he studied acting at the Pasadena Playhouse. After small parts in a dozen movies and many TV series, he won a role in The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit, staged in 1965, which brought him to producer David Dortort and to The High Chaparral as Manolito Montoya. The western began on NBC in 1967 and ran four seasons. Darrow became the first Latino actor to play Zorro on television, starred in Zorro and Son, voiced the character in an animated series, and played Zorro's father in The New Zorro from 1990 to 1994. He also appeared in Harry O as detective Manny Quinlan and in The Hitcher as Trooper Hancock. His awards included a Bambi Award for The High Chaparral and an Emmy for Santa Barbara.

A first
On television, Darrow became the first Latino actor to portray Zorro. He took the lead in the series Zorro and Son and lent his voice to the animated The New Adventures of Zorro.

In 1972, Darrow helped start the Screen Actors Guild Ethnic Minority Committee. He founded it together with the actors Ricardo Montalban, Edith Diaz and Carmen Zapata.
